Why I love summer and you should too

Devan Mehta, Opinions Editor

Who doesn’t like summer? Please find me a person (other than my lovely co-editor, of course) who doesn’t like summer. Between no school, nice weather, and all-you-can-eat ice cream, there truly are no downsides to summer. It’s safe to say that this article writes itself.

Nine straight months of schooling is really not ideal for anyone. So what would we do without our lovely summer break? Anything can happen during summer. You could make bank working at a camp, or you could just spend hours at the beach doing absolutely nothing.

I’m not entirely sure how else to convince the summer haters (if there genuinely are any out there) how to not hate summer, so here are some things about my summers (and I’m sure many other’s) that I cannot live without: making s’mores on the beach, getting Dippin’ Dots at baseball games, wearing shorts and sunglasses, biking everywhere, drinking cold drinks, barbecuing in the backyard, running around when you hear the ice cream truck near only to never find it. To name a few.

If you hadn’t noticed, most of my list involved food. Summer food is elite: seafood, watermelon, popsicles, and free slushies on 7/11. It’s not just the food, but the experience of the meal. Eating on the beach, at a barbeque, in the grass during a picnic, you can truly have an outdoor, Instagram-able meal. My mouth is watering just thinking about it.

Isn’t it so nice to not have to haul out a bunch of heavy clothing and put on multiple layers? We all know that most of this school wears Crocs year-round, but in the summer it’s actually normal! As for the rest of the year, no comment.

Summer activities are truly the best opportunities to let loose. Feeling hot, go to the pool! Don’t have a pool? Use the sprinkler in your backyard. No sprinkler? The hose works just as well! All of our problems and small annoyances are more likely to be cured by fun summer activities than boring and stressful school work.

In summer, the possibilities are truly endless. You are given the rare opportunity to slow down your life and enjoy yourself! So just relax, roll the windows down, and enjoy the freedom of summer while you can.
