Fashion in the Halls

Camelia Terraza

Welcome to 2022, fashionistas!

2021 marked our transition back into in-person environments, and it’s safe to say our fashion game was rusty. But now that we’ve been able to soak in the looks of DC’s boldest and brightest, it’s time to try on something new. Let your New Year’s resolutions include experimentation with some of our Tigers’ best trends!

THE TEXTURES

Outfits, like visual art, catch eyes with their use of texture. Enhanced by the weave of the fabric, these two looks create contrast with the skin beneath them. Pair a ruffly sweater with silky bottoms to give your look a different quality, and take a risk with a statement piece you’re just a LITTLE afraid of.

THE DETAILS

All those little things you think aren’t worth it… show them some love! The magic of these looks lie in the detailsribbed socks, gloves, a belt, leg warmers. Build your look around the small special things: a shirt that lines your favorite pendant, a simple top and jeans to highlight your favorite shoes, or an updo to show off your long earrings.

THE MONOCHROMATISMS

It never fails. Sticking to a single color, especially if it’s layered, is VERY chic, and as a bonus, you don’t have to worry about clashing (P.S.—headphones are the ultimate accessory).

THE CUTS

Bring back the vintage cuts. Now. From bobs to mullets, pixies to bowl cuts, these styles are everything. Tess (right) has one, and she ended up on the Urban Outfitters Instagram. Maybe you’re next. Brownie points if you pair it with a signature hat.
