Mitchell twins declare recruitment “shut down” after Maryland visit

“It is the best choice of our career,” said senior Makhi Mitchell about his and his brother Makhel’s verbal commitment to play basketball at Maryland, a school they had been in contact with since eighth grade. “The team [members] made us feel comfortable like we’re home already,” says Makhel after both brothers officially visited Maryland in September.

Both Makhi and Makhel expressed their excitement for next year in College Park. “The coaches are saying we need to be ready right when we got on campus because it is possible we’ll play a lot of minutes as freshmen,” says Makhi. With the possibility of big men Bruno Fernando and Jalen Smith leaving Maryland for the NBA before the Mitchells arrive, Makhel says they need to, “stay ready and be prepared.”

Makhi gave a preview of what is to come this season for Wilson before they ultimately arrive in College Park. “We are excited for the season. We are playing a lot of non-conference and conference games. It should be good,” Makhi says. The Mitchell twins are poised to play huge roles on the team this season as Wilson competes nationally, but also attempts to defend its DCIAA and DCSAA titles. •
