Meet the Badminton Club

From Ancient India to Jackson-Reed, badminton has remained a racquet and net involved sport.

JR’s new badminton club has now brought the sport to life in our school. Founded by juniors Susanna, Ashlee, and Wangel, the badminton club exists as a place to congregate and play on Wednesdays during lunch in the aux gym.

When I entered the scene myself, I wasn’t prepared for just how large a club it actually is. With somewhere between 50 to 100 students, this club is buzzing with excitement, bringing the school a friendly and lively atmosphere, and a place to have fun! Supervised by Coach Dunham, loud music and badminton supplies are provided along with a place to eat lunch and hang out.

While the club doesn’t leave lunchtime boundaries, don’t be sure that there isn’t a competitive element in this group. When walking around, it was evident that there were some groups who took the sport more seriously than others, excitedly jumping and shouting, while others had more relaxed games with friends.

Beyond the thrill of competition, the Badminton Club offers a chance to improve your ability in racquet-oriented sports, which can help beyond the court at Jackson-Reed. With an inclusive nature towards those who take badminton seriously or those who just want to have fun at lunch, this is a club that is truly for anyone. So next time you feel a bit bored at lunch of the same old cafeteria table, come check out the badminton club!
