AOTM – Dev Hippenstiel

Wilson’s lacrosse team culminated a fantastic season by winning the Washington Independent Lacrosse League with a 19-11 victory against St. Anselm’s. This success has been largely due to their goalie, senior Dev Hippenstiel.
Hippenstiel transferred to Wilson for his senior year and was a welcome addition to the lacrosse team. “He always brings up the intensity and understands the game really well,” explained sophomore Gabe Solomon, a teammate of Hippenstiel.
As goalie, Hippenstiel is not only responsible for stopping shots, but also acting as a coach on the field. He is constantly communicating to the defense in order to put them in the best position to win. “I helped structure and organize the defense and I support every single teammate I have because I know without them we cannot win a game,” Hippenstiel said.
Despite a 10-goal loss, Hippenstiel’s best game came against Sidwell, where he had a whopping 30 saves including one amazing stretch. “He had 10 straight saves in a row at one point,” Solomon said.
While Hippenstiel’s career as a Tiger may have been short, his play and leadership this season will leave a lasting impact on Wilson lacrosse.
