Jackson-Reed students vote on the best holiday cookies

As the holiday season approaches, it is simply impossible to avoid all the wintery desserts that follow this spirited holiday season. Desserts play a large role in the holiday movies and TV shows we know and cherish. While making this list, we took the most loved and popular holiday desserts and created a poll to determine the absolute best. Ranging from fruit cake, peppermint bark, and sugar cookies, to gingerbread and snickerdoodle cookies, we asked a handful of JR students to choose their favorite dessert from our list and rightfully so, snickerdoodle had the most votes. Snickerdoodle cookies are loved for their soft, chewy texture and their warm cinnamon sugar coating. The easy-to-make cookies remind many of those cozy winter evenings, undoubtedly making them a go-to choice for holiday baking. Peppermint bark, as it uses a classic holiday flavor, was naturally the second most-voted dessert. Described as a dessert that combines the components of two delicious flavors, the smooth, rich chocolate layer paired with the refreshing and festive peppermint creates a delightful contrast. Coming in third place was sugar cookies. As the traditional cookie remains  a classic yet can also be a versatile treat decorated in festive shapes and colors, this dessert is a fan favorite among students. They are fun to make and even more fun to eat. Plus, the sweet and buttery flavor of sugar cookies is a perfect match for the cozy and joyful atmosphere of the holidays. Although the following desserts did not receive many votes, they are still holiday classics. Gingerbread cookies are enjoyed by many because of the fun shapes they can be cut into. They’re great for sharing with loved ones and creating sweet memories together.  While it may not be everyone’s favorite, fruit cake is definitely a traditional treat that has stood the test of time. It’s often made with dried fruits, nuts, and spices. Some people love the dense and moist texture, while others enjoy the combination of sweet and tangy flavors.
