Album Review: “Javelin” by Sufjan Stevens

Rating: 9/10

Known for his song “Mystery of Love” featured in the movie “Call Me by Your Name,” on October 6th of 2023, singer Sufjan Stevens released his new album, “Javelin.” The album consists of 10 tracks where Stevens explores emotions of grief and heartbreak over the loss of his partner last April.

The album opens with “Goodbye Evergreen,” which starts out melancholic, but later picking up through the song while still capturing an overall theme.

“Javelin’s” unique instrumentals make it truly stand out. Featuring instruments such as the piano, acoustic guitar, and other woodwinds combined with the synth and electronic elements, creating an even deeper mood to the album than the current distraught tone. .

“Javelin” has received numerous positive reviews stating the album could possibly be Stevens best yet with many articles writing highly about complimenting the instrumentals and overall tone the album gives. Overall an outstanding album anyone should listen to too.
