Wawa still coming to Tenley despite delay

The opening of a Wawa store in Tenleytown has been delayed. The popular Philadelphia-area convenience store chain has recently been expanding across the East Coast, with numerous locations opening in Florida as well as Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The new Tenleytown location, however, is not listed in wawa.com’s “Coming Soon” tab for new stores, and the retail space still does not show any Wawa branding.

With the success of their Downtown DC location, Wawa announced plans last spring to open two more locations, one in Georgetown and one in Tenleytown. The Georgetown location has been open for almost two months.

Despite delays, Wawa is still opening in Tenleytown, where the Sears store used to be. The store was delayed in receiving “various permits,” a spokesperson from the retail space company Streetsense, the company leasing the space to Wawa, stated when interviewed by The Beacon, but they “anticipate to be open in the spring.”
