Wawa, the ever-expanding convenience store chain, is coming to Tenleytown. The Philadelphia-based retailer will be opening its third DC store in Tenley later this year or in early 2019. Filling the 7,000 square foot building right next to Whole Foods (formerly the Sears store and dental office), the spot will be open to customers 24/7.

With more than 750 stores in Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, Maryland, Virginia and Central Florida, Wawa has found enough success in its first DC store that it has announced plans to open two more stores: one in Tenleytown, and one in Georgetown.

“Wawa is your all day, every day stop for fresh, built-to-order foods, beverages, coffee, fuel services, and surcharge-free ATMs,” according to Wawa’s website. Wawa’s most famous items are its hoagies (a type of sandwich) and coffee.

Wawa will be yet another addition to a changing Tenleytown that has seen new food spots like District Taco, Dunkin Donuts, and Seoulspice open in recent memory. Its prime location near Wilson and the Metro will make the store easily accessible. It should be a popular spot, with its range of food options along with the fact that it will never close.
