The six most important political events of April

iPhones keep us all connected all the time, which has its benefits. It also means, though, that we’re often flooded with too much to keep track of daily. Understanding everything that happened in the past week, if not month, can be a challenge. To make it easier, here are six important political events that happened in the past month of April:

1) Stormy Daniels Sued Trump

For a while we’ve known about Donald Trump’s alleged relationship with Porn Star Stormy Daniels, and have slowly learned more about this relationship as the allegations grew more incendiary. We also know President Trump’s tweets about the matter have been increasingly random and unadvisable by his legal team.

Daniels was suing Trump to eliminate a nondisclosure agreement she signed that stopped her from talking about what she said was an affair with the President.

April brought on a new lawsuit.

On the 30th Daniels filed a new lawsuit against President Trump, charging him with defaming her in a tweet that said she was pulling a “con job” on the media.

2) Rudy Giuliani was Hired as Trump’s New Lawyer

Trump appears to have a distaste for the Russia investigation. This is clear from his tweets, his rants, his twitter rants, and from his choice of lawyer. Trump chose Rudy Giuliani to join his legal team April 19th in an effort to “quickly” resolve the special counsel investigation into Russian election interference.

Giuliani is the former Mayor of New York City and a longtime friend of Trump’s so this is not a surprise.

According to Jay Sekulow, another of Trump’s various lawyers, “The president said: ‘Rudy is great. He has been my friend for a long time and wants to get this matter quickly resolved for the good of the country.’”

3) Paul Ryan Announced his Resignation as Speaker of the House

“You all know that I did not seek this job I took it reluctantly. But I have given this job everything. I have no regrets whatsoever for having accepted this responsibility… but the truth is it’s easy for it to take over everything in your life and you can’t just let that happen.” House Speaker Paul Ryan said in reference to his announcement of retirement.

The House speaker followed this up by saying he did not want his children to know him as a weekend dad. But the question that emerges out of this is was there an ulterior motive for Ryan’s resignation?

30 Republicans have announced retirement this year and Ryan’s departure will hurt them as Democrats need 20 seats to take the House.

4) The FBI Raided Michael Cohen’s Office

The beginning of last month the FBI raided the New York City office and hotel room of Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen.. On April 6 they seized many documents varying from business records, to emails, to alleged payments to a porn actress.

After this, Trump tweeted that the Federal Bureau of Investigations was conducting a, “witch hunt,” attacking “our country in a true sense,” and “disgraceful.”

Agents had a search warrant, a briefed individual said the matter was an investigation into possible bank fraud, but it’s plausible, and possibly what sent Trump spiraling, that the raid was part of the Muller investigation.

5) Michelle Wolf Roasted Everyone at the White House Correspondents Dinner

The last Saturday in April, every year since 1921, is an awkward gathering of politicians, journalists, and others known as the White House Correspondents Dinner. Every year there’s a comedian.

This Correspondents Dinner the comedian was Michelle Wolf and she harshly criticized everyone present. Democrats, Republicans, journalists, journalism, Ivanka Trump, Eric Trump, Trump, Russians, and many more were in her line of fire.

Some memorable lines: “[Sarah Sanders] burns facts and then she uses that ash to create a perfect smoky eye.” “Like, what’s Uncle Tom but for white women who disappoint other white women? Oh, I know. Aunt Coulter.”

The comedic routine was met with 3,000 gawking, scared, and repelled faces.

6) A Wax Figure was made for Melania Trump’s Birthday

In less important but perhaps more intriguing news, a wax figure was made of Melania Trump for her 48th birthday.

The Wax Figure was revealed April 26th at Madame Tussaud’s in New York City as part of an interactive exhibit called “Give Melanie A Voice.”

Reactions were mixed, some thought it looked exactly like Melania, others couldn’t see the resemblance. It’s also not clear whether Melanie wanted the figure to begin with. Either way, if you put the figure next to Trump at a conference, you probably wouldn’t know the difference.
