Holiday movie faves

As the holiday season has crept up upon us all, it’s important to spend time doing things other than homework and trying not to freeze to death. Luckily, corporate America has turned Christmas into a brand and marketing strategy, so we have to watch holiday movies to cure seasonal depression…at least until January! Here are some I recommend:

Love Actually: I don’t know about you, but I look forward to watching multiple dysfunctional couples pursue very toxic relationships that definitely wouldn’t work out every year! Besides, who doesn’t want Hugh Grant as the leader of their country? You can’t convince me that this isn’t an amazing, slightly controversial, classic.

Home Alone 2: If you’re like me and aesthetic is one of the most important factors in what makes a good movie, then you’re in for a treat. New York City in December is the perfect vibe despite the movie’s two inconsistencies : where were Child Protection Services and how did Kevin McAllister have amazing engineering skills?

How the Grinch Stole Christmas: Let’s be clear: I am not talking about the live action film. I am talking about the animated classic in which a 3 year old girl is smaller than a Christmas ornament. This film is an underrated masterpiece, in which my father likes to bring up the fact that the dog was the mastermind behind the whole plan every year.

The Princess Switch: Okay, hear me out on this one. I felt an obligation to include a cheesy Netflix original that would never happen in real life at all. Whoever had the idea to create a set of holiday movies where Vanessa Hudgens plays another character each movie deserves a raise. Am I saying it’s a good film? Absolutely not. But is it stupidly entertaining? Of course it is.

Be sure to curl up with a blanket, light a fire, grab some hot chocolate and spend your holiday season watching movies!
