Album Review: “Her Loss” by Drake and 21 Savage, 7/10

On November 4th, Drake and 21 Savage released a 16 song track titled “Her Loss”. The album quickly gained popularity, hitting No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart on the 19th of November. It earned a total of 513.56 million on-demand streams.

“Her Loss” is Drake’s twelfth and 21 Savage’s third No. 1 album in the US. The most popular song of the album, “Rich Flex”, gained attention on TikTok due to its catchy chorus and simple beat. It had a similar background to 21 Savage’s “Runnin” featuring Metro Boomin.

Next up, “Middle of the Ocean”, is one of our personal favorites. Despite the length of the nearly 6 minute song, the slow tempo along with the few beat changes gives it a calming and relaxing feel for listeners.

The final song we reviewed was “Circo Loco”. Whilst listening to this song, we realized that certain parts of the song were very familiar. Possibly even too familiar. After further investigation, we discovered that the line, “One more time,” was a sample from Daft Punk’s hit, “One more time”. This made the song feel unoriginal and not stand out from other songs.

As a whole, we found that the album had both pros and cons, from catchy tunes to a lack of uniqueness. One thing we like about the album is its wide range of tempo. This makes the songs in the album sound unique and you don’t get sick of them. This album had very high hopes, given the artists’ talents, however the album felt more Drake than it did 21 Savage. Out of the 16 songs, Drake had 4 solo songs, whereas 21 Savage only had 1. After a detailed analysis, we conclude that Drake and 21 Savage’s joint album, “Her Loss”, deserves a 7/10.
