Netflix’s new holiday movies are your classic rom-coms

Addison Childre, Director of New Staff

There’s no better way to enjoy a night at home during the holidays than with a Christmas rom-com! There are tons of great movies to fit your festive mood streaming on Netflix now.  Get your popcorn ready for some feel-good entertainment with these Netflix Original movies!

First up is the October release, Holidate starring Emma Roberts and Luke Bracey.  Holidate is the story of two cranky singletons who haphazardly meet at the mall while returning presents the day after Christmas. Sloane (Roberts) and Jackson (Bracey) connect over their distaste for Christmas, which then leads to a conversation about the pressures of having a significant other to accompany all holiday events.  Ultimately leading to the two of them creating a pact to be each other’s “holidates,” albeit with some pushback from Sloane. The movie is uproariously funny, and the characters, though somewhat crass, are loveable. For those of you looking for a more relatable, modern comedy during this holiday season – this is it!

Next up is the second of Netflix’s Christmas releases, Operation Christmas Drop starring Kat Graham and Alexander Ludwig. Operation Christmas Drop is based on the real life military mission that’s been around since 1952. The movie follows D.C. based political aide, Erica (Graham) as she travels to Anderson Air Force Base to determine whether the program should be cut. Along the way, she meets pilot Andrew (Ludwig), and an unintended romance blossoms. I won’t spoil the ending for you, but this is a feel good film serving to educate its viewers on this decades old philanthropic, military tradition. This is a great one to enjoy with the family!
